A Remington Sportsman-58 20-gauge semi-automatic shotgun, manufactured by Remington Arms Co. Inc. in Ilion, N.Y., U.S.A., serial number 166433X, with visible patent numbers 2,645,878-2,675,666. Designed for 2 3/4″ or shorter shells, the firearm features a blued steel barrel and receiver. The receiver is decorated with etched hunting scenes, including waterfowl on one side and hunting dogs with butterflies on the other, surrounded by scrollwork. It is fitted with a varnished wood stock and fore-end, both featuring checkered panels. The buttplate is a brown ‘Pachmayr White Line’ recoil pad.
